Plans for wind turbine plant 'may create 300 green collar jobs'
Proposals for the establishment of a plant located in the north-east of England that produces offshore wind turbines have moved a step closer.
According to the Guardian, up to 300 jobs could be created if the Xanthus Energy project is given the go-ahead.
The firm - which manufactures, maintains and removes turbines - has been awarded a share of government grants totalling £3 million, which is being provided in a bid to help firms develop wind energy projects.
It will use the cash to design the factory and construct scale models of its foundations.
The Guardian suggested that the turbines it creates can be assembled onshore, making them cheaper and easier to put on the sea bed.
Xanthus Energy will also conduct detailed analysis to show how wind farm developers can save money by using it.
Construction of the facility will begin once the first order is received, which should be by the end of the year.
